Sometimes we, as translators, do not have enough time to document all the wonderful job we have done, finding terminology in our target language in such short time. This happens to me quite often - after a few months, I realize I end up looking up the same components or concepts I have already done some research on!
Many times, this valuable research is tangential, because the main topic was not so closely related. This is why I thought, after translating so many monographs, instructions for use, laboratory reports, and scientific papers, that I should build a glossary about this awesome piece of laboratory equipment - the laminar flow cabinet.
Also known as laminar flow hoods or biosafety cabinets (for specialized texts, you can look up their slight differences), laminar flow cabinets allow experimenting with substances while providing protection from contamination.
Scientists and engineers took advantage of the principle of air laminar flow to exclude contaminants. There are many types of cabinets depending on the level of protection needed for the operator, the substance itself, and the environment, as not all substances are equally hazardous.
These are my suggested translations into Spanish based on my research. I also included some pictures for you to find the components of this machine. I hope you find them useful in your translation journey!
